The third original 96 khz high sampling digital recording on M•A, The Splendour of Al-Andalus is truly a splendid collection of Andalusian pieces beautifully performed by members of the Paniagua family of Madrid, Spain. Andalusian music developed from the mid 7th century through the end of the 15th century in the southern area of Spain controlled by Muslims who originally came from North Africa and as far away as Baghad. It is very melodic, very rhythmical and very beautiful! Calamus are Carlos Paniagua, Luis Delgado, Begona Olavide, Rosa Olavide and Eduardo Paniagua. This recording was realized in a beautiful monastery cathedral in Valladolid, Spain. Stereophile Recording of the Month for May of 1995.
