"You’re hard-pressed to find rising talents more exciting than Camille Thurman.” - New York Times

Following up her Chesky debut, Inside the Moment, which debuted #25 on the Billboard Jazz Albums Chart, Camille Thurman returns for her sophomore Chesky effort. Supported by Jazz veterans Cecil McBee (Bass), Jack Wilkins (Guitar), Steve Williams (Drums), and Jeremy Pelt (Trumpet), Camille showcases her remarkable talent and potential both vocally and on saxophone on this collection of Jazz standards entitled Waiting for the Sunrise. Part of the Chesky Binaural + Series, all recorded with a single microphone, the band appears right before you with this spacious, lush and multi-dimensional recording. Now headphone users will hear the same three-dimensional sound and imaging as audiophiles have for the past 25 years with Chesky Recordings. Also these new Binaural+ Series albums capture even more spatial realism for the home audiophile market, bringing you one step closer to the actual event. You will hear some of the most natural and pure music ever recorded.

"New York jazz vocalist and sax player Camille Thurman has drawn comparisons to Ella Fitzgerald, thanks to her phrasing and the way she punctuates vocals with quick octave notes - you can add that her tenor sax sounds eerily like Stan Getz. No wonder she's been hailed as a double threat. Thurman started playing sax as a teen and was scatting and vocalizing her solos before she started singing. Waiting for the Sunrise features a small combo and sparse arrangements that allow Thurman to sizzle on jazz standards by Cole Porter ("Easy To Love"), Hoagy Carmichael ("The Nearness of You"), and Edith Piaf ("If You Really Love Me - Really Love Me"). Thurman has a soothing natural voice that captivates - her reading of the 1910 Shelton Brooks popular song "Some of These Days" is downright seductive. Her arrangement of "After You've Gone", a 1918 hit for Marion Harris, glides atop a bed of tasteful guitar comping and soft tom-toms. Chesky uses a recording technique that creates a signature three-dimensional, ambient space - with natural echo - that adds to the laidback feel of this album. The result is one of the best jazz-vocal albums this year." - Greg Cahill, The Absolute Sound, December 2018
