180g Audiophile Vinyl LP Mastered by Friday Music's Joe Reagoso From Original Colpix Records Tapes!

Only in America can a young lad from Manchester, England break into show business playing The Artful Dodger in Oliver in New York City... winning accolades and a Tony Award nomination from the theater world one day... and then mastering his craft on The Ed Sullivan Show the same night of The Beatles huge breakthrough, then signing a deal with Colpix Records the same night! A year later, he and three other gents became runaway teen idols on television, topping the charts all over the world as The Monkees, outselling The Beatles for a period and maintaining the coveted number one slot with several hit singles and albums over the next few years - Only in America.

This isn’t make believe. It is the fabulous 'rise to fame in a hurry' story courtesy of a superstar pop rock legend Davy Jones... and the massive recording career that started with his long out of print first album David Jones.

Recorded throughout 1965 with a bevy of the hottest songwriters in the Columbia Pictures stable, this pop gem contained the rudiments of a major career which has endured for many years since.

Prior to his untimely death in 2012, Davy proudly noted to Friday Music “Did you know that Dream Girl went to number one in Australia?” Relaying the fact that Philly artist Van McCoy wrote this northern soul sounding track, Jones truly smiled at the U.K. term as this song had the arrangements and feel of r&b bands of the day like The Drifters and The Shirelles. This soulful side of Davy Jones would later show up on The Monkees hits like She Hangs Out, A Man Without A Dream and Forget That Girl.

The album’s second single What Are We Going To Do? was a slight departure. It followed more of a Brit pop feel, and it warranted solid chart exposure as well as appearances on national TV shows like Shindig!

The brightest stars of the classic pop era also contributed to this album and would soon follow Davy Jones on his path to Monkeemania. Superstars like Carole King/Gerry Goffin, Barry Mann/Cynthia Weil, David Gates from Bread, Toni Wine who would later sing lead vocals on The Archies records...and Bob Dylan with It Ain’t Me Babe, which was also a hit for The Turtles that same year.

Friday Music is proud to offer this fine album for the first time in fifty years! This first time 180 gram audiophile vinyl LP is mastered impeccably by Joe Reagoso (The Monkees) from the super rare Colpix Records stereo tapes, which truly shows a transition from pop crooner to future rock star.

In 1967, the David Jones LP charted thanks to his rise to fame as a member of The Monkees and the album cover was cleverly featured in The Monkees TV show episode, Monkees At The Movies.
