180g Vinyl Double LP Reissue!

Playing the Angel returns to dark, brooding greatness that is Depeche Mode. Its an emotionally loaded, characteristically long faced, distortion-pocked masterwork - a "Personal Jesus" level accomplishment. Muffled beats and blasts of mesmerizing static recall the industrial glory days; and the simple, synthy exercise in hyper-intelligent pop. Finally some very well written songs from David Gahan appear for the first time. One of the best Depeche Mode records in years. All hail the '80s.

Rooted in the UK's late 70's New Romantic movement, Depeche Mode formed in 1980, and their pioneering, synthesizer-based sound went on to establish them as one of the most successful alt-rock groups ever. These electro-pop superstars loomed as large as cult heroes as they did as commercial heavies, and their wealth of singles and signature tracks ranged from energetic dance grooves to dramatic, moody, and industrial-tinged masterpieces. Depeche's originality of vision weathered personnel shifts and personal turmoil, influencing modern rock and synth-pop on a global level.

The vinyl LP comes in a gatefold sleeve with thick slab of 180 gram black audiophile vinyl and contains insert and liner notes.

"Playing the Angel is both the band's best album since Violator and, more significantly, an album that is near Violator in stature...Like the best Depeche Mode, almost everything on the album will make an initial wowing impact while remaining layered enough in subtle details to surprise and thrill with repeated listens. It is not the kind of album a 25-year-old band is supposed to make." -Andy Kellman, allmusic.com
