Roman Candle is the debut studio album by American singer-songwriter Elliott Smith. It was recorded in late 1993 and released on July 14, 1994 by record label Cavity Search. The 1994 debut was recorded while he was still in the group Heatmiser. Smith played each instrument and recorded it on his 4-track recorder for a raw, homemade sound. Although he had never intended for it to be released, upon hearing the recording, the label Cavity Search immediately requested permission to release the entire album as recorded.
