Violinist Gerhard Taschner is joined by pianists Martin Krause, Hubert Giessen, and Edith Farnadi for this recording of Encores by Falla, Sarasate, Tartini, Paganini, and Schoeck.

From liner notes:
Gerhard Taschner had his place between the virtuosos of yesteryear and today's musicians. As in the case of Bronislaw Huberman, virtuoso pieces formed a regular part of his violin recitals. Nevertheless, he was not dismissed as the pure Paganini or Sarasate violinist - as happened, for example, with Ruggiero Ricci. This had to do with the fact that during World War II, Taschner gained fame as one of the youngest concertmasters ever of the Berlin Philharmonic and after the war, frequently performed classical, romantic, and modern violin concertos.

...the encores. They are more than little extras. They are a microcosm. For when we compare the miniatures of great composers with their more extensive works, we recognize that the former contain characteristic features in concentrated form. With the miniatures the soloist can take the listener through lands and times within a short space of time. And it is precisely this that Gerhard Taschner does so masterfully.

When Gerhard Taschner plays Paganini, Sarasate, or Kreisler, he is the Italian bel canto singer, the Spanish dancer, bullfighter, and lover, and the Viennese charmeur all in one person.
