Grandaddy Under The Western Freeway 20th Anniversary Edition 2LP (Sky Blue & Green Vinyl) |
 |
Celebratory Reissue Of Classic Debut On Sky Blue & Green Vinyl Double LP!
Original Album Remastered + Unreleased Demos!
New Packaging w/Candid Photos, Artwork, Tour Logs, Doodles & More!
Friendship Fever is working closely with singer/guitarist/keyboardist Jason
Lytle of Grandaddy to give this seminal album the deluxe treatment it deserves.
It will include the beautifully re-mastered original album intact, as well as an
extra LP featuring unreleased demos from 1997 that include sketches of songs
that became legendary Grandaddy tracks, like "Bjork ELO Xanadu and the Birth of
Chartsengrafs" and the fan-favorite "For The Dishwasher." Grandaddy was
meticulous about documenting their early years and has also provided folders of
raw original artwork elements for Under the Western Freeway, candid photographs,
original flyer artwork, tour logs, doodles, and much more. New liner notes will
be written by Gruff Rhys of Super Furry Animals. Our hope is that this release
serves as an unparalleled time-capsule of this seminal Central-Valley California
masterpiece. Ahead of its time, sitting peacefully alone in the universe.
The first full-length Grandaddy album (and fan favorite) gets the special
treatment, pressed on sky blue and green vinyl.
"Being from northern California, Grandaddy always gets compared to Pavement
-- and rightly so, in some respects -- but this probably isn't the best way to
start on the band. Some of the tracks on Under the Western Freeway are more in
the Weezer vein ('Summer Here Kids,' 'A.M. 120'), and the few that are truly
reminiscent of Pavement are more like Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain's drawling
'Range Life' than the angular guitar work more usual from Pavement. Comparisons
aside, what's important is that Under the Western Freeway is a fairly brilliant
album, combining a warm, earnest, and rustic feel with sometimes goofy
experimentation (looped drums, bleeping keyboard hooks) -- and it's all very
pleasant and friendly. And what's more, these guys can write a solid, catchy
melody. A couple listens to tracks like 'Nonphenomenal Lineage' and 'Go Progress
Chrome' make this all too clear." - Nitsuh Abebe, allmusic.com
