|Ive owned and treasured the original RCA LP for many years, so when I found this new remaster I had to order it promptly.
And am I glad I did so - indeed. This is a masterful remastering in every aspect. The original LP can sound very good indeed but every copy of it Ive found has various degrees of background noise that is quite annoying to be honest. None of that on this CD; the background is black and very quiet. Overall it sounds like this was recorded yesterday with modern equipment. It boggles my mind how they were able to accomplish recordings like this in the 50s, it truly does.
The music, while perhaps not a true blues album, is to this listener very engaging. Belafonte sings as well as he ever did, and the selection of songs is just lovely to my ears.
In my opinion anyone who enjoys Belafonte and/or likes the vibes of good old blues should really get this CD. Its truly enjoyable, and I tip my hat off to the audio engineers.
5 stars, for sure.|
