TAS Super LP List! Special Merit: Informal
TAS Recommended! Rated a 'Best Audiophile Label Recording' in the November 2009 issue of The Absolute Sound!
Incredible Jazz Records + the original analog master tapes + cut at 45 RPM + mastered by Kevin Gray and Steve Hoffman at AcousTech + pressed on two 180-gram virgin vinyl LPs by RTI = THE ULTIMATE LP REISSUE!
The same formula that made the Fantasy 45 Series perhaps the most successful
audiophile reissue collection ever is now being reapplied to Blue Note reissues!
Blue Train is arguably one of the most influential titles from Coltrane and one
of the greatest Blue Note releases ever. In 1957, right at the very start of his
Prestige recording period, 'Trane did this one-off set in New Jersey with Rudy
van Gelder with historic result. Joining Coltrane's tenor are Lee Morgan on
trumpet, Curtis Fuller on trombone, Kenny Drew at piano, Paul Chambers on bass,
and Philly Joe Jones on drums.
"The sound is immediate, with superb instrumental balance, and a big,
airy, coherent soundstage. The bass and drums are well captured, serving as deep
anchors that allow the horn players to blow away with a sense of controlled yet
still astonishing freedom." - Wayne Garcia, The Absolute Sound, June/July
