Nemesis is Mark Nodwell's musical autobiography, performed by a dream band of
current jazz/creative music greats. The compositions represent certain
experiences or states of mind (the titles give some clues) which Nodwell uses as
starting points for musical development. These pieces move between "inside" and
freer sections, mixing lyrical themes with passionate improvisations, supported
by evocative harmonies, all executed with subtlety and grace. Rooted in
contemporary jazz, the music pushes boundaries, using cutting-edge rhythmic,
textural, and compositional ideas; the results are both innovative and
beautiful.
Musicians: Mark Nodwell, composer; Ron Miles, trumpet; Khaby Doug Young, guitar;
Art Lande, piano; Drew Gress, bass; Tom Rainey, drums.
