bop. A Louisiana native, Johnson made his recording debut in New Orleans, but
then moved to Los Angeles where he became a studio musician. He's worked with
Johnny Otis and Charles Brown and recorded as a leader for a variety of labels.
In 1990 he toured with the Gene Harris Superband.
Great cooking session with Johnson and Herb Ellis, Bobbye Hall, Jake Hanna, Mike
Melvoin, Jimmie Smith.
Plas Johnson also plays the sax solo for Neil Hefti's signature music for "The
Odd Couple" TV series. He has recorded with countless musicians including: Frank
Sinatra, Barbara Streisand, Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Charles and many others.
"Positively" is one of his best recordings, and features Ray Brown on bass, Herb
Ellis on guitar, Jake Hanna and Jimmy Smith on drums, and others.
