Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Albums of All Time - Rated 39/500!
First time available in stereo in it's entirety on CD!
Their debut album, Please Please Me, was released in 1963. The album was
rush-released in the UK to capitalize on the success of the singles "Please
Please Me" and "Love Me Do". Eight of the songs on this album were written by
Lennon & McCartney. The album is chock full of hit tunes including "P.S. I Love
You", "Do You Want To Know a Secret" and "I Saw Her Standing There".
"The Beatles recorded ten of the fourteen songs on their British debut album at EMI's Abbey Road studio in just over twelve hours (10 a.m. to 10:45 p.m.) on February 11th, 1963. For productivity alone, it is one of the greatest first albums in rock. But even at this early stage, the Beatles had invented a bracing new sound for a rock band an assault of thrumming energy and impeccable vocal harmonies and they nailed it here, just by running through the covers and originals in their live repertoire: the Shirelles' "Boys" and Arthur Alexander's "Anna"; the Lennon-McCartney burners "There's a Place" and "I Saw Her Standing There." John Lennon appropriately finished the sessions by shredding what was left of his vocal cords on two takes of "Twist and Shout." - www.rollingstone.com

The albums have been re-mastered by a dedicated team of engineers at EMIs Abbey
Road Studios in London over a four year period utilizing state of the art
recording technology alongside vintage studio equipment, carefully maintaining
the authenticity and integrity of the original analogue recordings. The result
of this painstaking process is the highest fidelity the catalogue has seen since
its original release.
The stereo CD includes track listings and artwork as originally released in the
UK. Within the CDs new packaging, booklet includes detailed historical notes
along with informative recording notes. These stereo CDs will be housed in a
three-panel eco digi-pack with 14 page booklet.
A newly produced mini-documentary on the making of the album, directed by Bob
Smeaton, is included as a QuickTime file on the album. The documentary contains
archival footage, rare photographs and never-before-heard studio chat from The
Beatles, offering a unique and very personal insight into the studio atmosphere.
"For the new remasters, the engineer went back to the original 1960's analog master tapes. Remastering is about working with, sharpening, amplifying, clarifying, and enhancing what are already the settled (or established) facts of the original mix. A listening session in early June at Electric Lady Studios in Manhattan confirmed that this is exactly what has been done. In A/B comparisons with the 1987 CD versions, the Beatles' records sounded more alive, more spirited, with greater dynamic range, and a new spaciousness that was very apparent... These new releases are an audiophile's dream - on good gear, they do sound much improved." - Robert Baird, Stereophile Magazine, October 2009, Vol. 32, No.
