As part of the Beach Boys' 50th Anniversary celebration, classic albums from their historic catalog are now remastered and packaged in soft packs. Each title includes both Mono and Stereo Mixes (with the exception of Sunflower and Surf's Up albums which include stereo mix only).
These releases mark the stereo debut of Smiley Smile and Beach Boys Party!, while The Beach Boys Today! and Summer Days (And Summer Nights!!) are being released in stereo for the first time in their entirety.
The remastered releases include the first-ever stereo mixes of several key Beach Boys classics, including "Good Vibrations", "Help Me Rhonda", "I Get Around", and "409", among others.
The Beach Boys' 17th studio album, released on August 30, 1971 was released to more public anticipation than they had had in recent years. The album contains the title track "Surf's Up" which was taken from the abandoned studio album Smile.
Following the commercial failure of the 1970 release Sunflower, the Beach Boys turned to Jack Rieley as their manager. He appointed Carl Wilson as the musical director in recognition of the role he played keeping the group together since 1967. He demanded the completion of "Surf's Up" by Brian Wilson. However, initially balking at working on the song, brother Carl commenced without him. Toward the end of the sessions, Brian returned to the aid of Carl and engineer Stephen Desper to complete the third movement of the song.
"The late, angel-throated Carl Wilson in particular shines here, and with two of brother Brian's greatest-ever tunes, 'Til I Die' and 'Surf's Up,' closing things out... the listener is left levitating in ecstasy as the final notes fade away.
