"[The VPI Super Scoutmaster Signature] In many aspects of its performance, it
exceeds the best sound in tables available a decade or so ago... It has a
wonderfully musical authenticity and many analog lovers probably aren't going to
feel the need to spend more for diminishing returns." - Harry Pearson,
February 2006 The Absolute Sound Magazine.
"We just fired one of these babies up today and we were all totally blown away by the sound! This combo has unbelievable Bass and Sound Staging and was smooth and liquid right out of the box!" - Bob Bantz/President Elusive Disc, Inc
The Super Scoutmaster Reference features the hefty Super Platter, Mini TNT Feet and the JMW 10.5i Tonearm! The Super Scoutmaster Reference uses the Aries 2/HRX black platter and inverted bearing, Stainless Steel Outer Periphery Ring Clamp and center weight, SDS Speed Controller, HRX-dual motor flywheel assembly with a new 300-rpm motor, and the dual Scoutmaster chassis with a steel center, all in one
'Super' Turntable!
The Super Scoutmaster Reference uses the most accurate motor drive in the business, the
HR-X system. The massive flywheel and dual motor drive controlled by the
revolutionary SDS power supply gives the smoothest rotation in the business. You
can almost say that if your expensive table doesn't have a flywheel driving it,
why is it so expensive?
The finishing touches are the specially designed, totally non resonant laminated
chassis and the Stainless Steel Outer Periphery Ring Clamp. The ring clamp lowers warp induced speed
variations to near zero making the combination of HR-X flywheel drive and
perfectly level record sound like a master tape.
Before you purchase any expensive table you must compare the facts. Does it have
a flywheel drive? Does it have a warp flattening system? Does it have an
inverted bearing running on a silent Teflon surface? Does the speed control come
from a state of he art power supply? The VPI Super Scoutmaster Reference has all of this
and more!
The Super Scoutmaster Reference combines key features from several of VPI's most
successful tables. It uses the Aries 2/HRX black platter and inverted bearing, HRX
periphery ring clamp and center weight, SDS Speed Controller, HRX-dual motor
flywheel assembly with a new 300-rpm motor, and the dual Scoutmaster chassis
with a steel center. The Super Scoutmaster Reference also comes with the JMW-10.5i tonearm
installed. The table stands 22" by 14" by 5 3/4" and weighs 60 pounds more than
the Scout. Total weight is 97 pounds.
The VPI Mini TNT Feet are the heavier and more stable composite TNT Style Feet and they provide greater stability, vibration control and better sound. The VPI Mini TNT Feet are quite heavy (almost 1lb per foot), well isolated and have a very stable 2 1/2" diameter footprint! They are made of a composite of Delrin and Stainless Steel similar the plinth of the highly acclaimed VPI HRX. They also have a damping mechanism integrated into the design as well. The bottom of the feet have 3 steel ball bearings that are the contact point with your stand to further minimize vibration. The result of all these design features is a lower noise floor, tighter bass and improved overall clarity and soundstage for your VPI turntable.
For improved stability and damping, the Super Scoutmaster Reference's chassis is made
from two 1 1/8" thick MDF sandwiched between a 12 gauge steel plate giving a
more rigid, non-resonant plinth. The HRX black platter is 1 7/8" thick of finely
machined Acrylic and has a larger diameter than all previous VPI platters. This
improves speed stability and allows for the use of the VPI Stainless Steel Outer Periphery Ring Clamp.
The the HRX-dual motor flywheel assembly with new 300-rpm motor (lower resonant
frequency, only 5Hz!) is contained in a separate steel housing and drives the
platter via an Aries belt, speeds are 33 and 45 standard, 78 is optional. This
combination gives quiet, yet stable running with accurate speed.
The SDS breaks new ground in clean accurate power delivery using advanced
computer digital technology and quartz crystal accuracy. The ability to adjust
voltage and frequency being fed into a turntable motor was considered paramount
in the design of the SDS. Both functions are adjustable from the front panel and
results are shown in large, easy to read L.E.D. displays.
The VPI Super Platter is the most advanced platter VPI has ever made! The VPI Super Platter weighs in at a hefty 25 pounds which will give you a quieter background, better speed regulation, deeper, tighter bass and improved soundstaging and dynamics.

See Harry Pearson's rave review in the Dec/Jan 2005 issue of The Absolute Sound.
"Now here is a surprise. This, the third generation of Harry Weisfeld's
"Scout" series, borders on greatness! In its first form, it was certainly the
best buy among American LP playback devices. And if you consider what you will
get for extra money in this hot-rod version, the "Super" makes a fine long term
investment!" - Absolute Sound Editor's Choice Award Winner, Issue 150

JMW10.5i Tonearm
Dimensions: 22" by 14" by 5 3/4"
Weight: 97lbs.

The JMW Memorial 10.5i Tonearm:
The new JMW 10.5i and 12.5i Memorial tonearms begin where the JMW 10 and 12
leave off. Although they share much of their predecessors' design, including the
precision unipivot, damped stainless steel/aluminum arm tube, and high-quality
internal wiring, the 10.5i and 12.5i incorporate several significant
improvements:
• The larger dropped counterweight puts more mass below the arm's pivot point
for improved stability.
• A secondary mounting with underbase has been placed between the arm rest and
the arm lift to greatly improve the arm's rigidity literally making these the
only arms that can do VTA adjustments while listening and then be locked as
rigid as a solid mounted arm. Do not discount this function, it counts for the
speed and low bass detail in the 10.5i and 12.5i
• A large knurled VTA tower with a smooth precise feel makes it easy to set VTA
during play. This is of major importance with the new set of high definition
cartridges now available
• The azimuth ring on the 10.5i has the larger side weights of the 12.5i for
improved stability.
• Fluid damping is available for cartridges that require it (Grado, Clearaudio)
• All possible parameters are adjustable on these tonearms.
• Both arms available with Nordost Valhalla wire and balanced output
connections.
• The 10.5i tonearm wand does not fit the 10.5 or 10 tonearm base. The 10.5i is
12 mm longer and will not work on older JMW 10" arm bases.
Sonically, the JMW 10.5i and 12.5 are a cut above the already impressive 10 and
12.
Features:
Extremely long armwand (250mm spindle to stylus)
Lower offset angle for linear tracking accuracy
Vertical height adjustment on the fly in .00035" steps
No mechanical anti-skate needed
Entire arm can be removed with settings intact
Complete grounding of entire tonearm for lowest noise
Silicone hard/soft damping of composite aluminum/steel
Highest quality wire, cartridge clips and Lemo connects
Azimuth and on-the-fly VTA adjustments
Table includes: 3 year manufacturer warranty.
Tonearm includes: Lifetime manufacturers guarantee.
