The Audioquest Beetle Optical, Bluetooth & USB Digital-to-Analog Converter optimizes smartphones, tablets, computers, TVs, gaming consoles, media streamers, and more!

The Opportunity:
Once, playing music meant a turntable feeding an AM/FM receiver. Then the Cd was added to the mix, but all still had analog outputs feeding analog inputs. Once, TV audio meant the sound coming out of the TV. That evolved to the sound coming from the analog outputs of a TV, VCR or DVD player feeding the analog inputs of an A/V receiver. then the world started to get digitally complicated, with information being passed from one component to another in digital form:
• Toslink Optical is more important than ever. Toslink is often the best way to transfer audio from: a TV, media streamer (such as Apple TV or Sonos), laptop computer (often the 3.5mm headphone output is also a 3.5 mm Toslink output), or game console
• USB Audio has become prevalent for playing audio from a computer, media streamer, or smartphone
• Bluetooth wireless is used to transmit audio from smartphones, computers, game consoles, and TVs
• HDMI is used to transmit audio + video to a TV, or only video to a projector, or only audio to a soundbar
• FireWire is mostly on the way out. Thunderbolt is the premium transfer standard in some applications. Wifi wireless is used for networks, as is the much superior Ethernet cable system.

None of these systems are perfect. Noise and signal degradation exist in the transmitting electronics, the cable, and the Digital-to-Analog converter (DAC) used to turn these digital signals back into the analog sound we listen to.

Higher-performance transmitting electronics, cables, and digital decoding circuitry, are all opportunities to do less damage, and to therefore provide a more articulate, compelling and engaging audio experience.

The Solution:
AudioQuest's Beetle Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC) accepts digital audio over Toslink Optical, USB and Bluetooth. Beetle then puts the digital data through one of the highest-performance digital controllers, into one of the most capable DACs, and finally into an amazingly beautiful-sounding analog output stage.

The 3.5mm analog output feeds all that audio magic directly to headphones, or to a soundbar, amplifier, or powered speakers.

• Beetle's Toslink Optical capability proves that the Toslink system deserves serious respect. Combined with a good low-dispersion Optical cable, Beetle provides unprecedented sound quality for a reasonable price.

• Beetle's asynchronous USB interface ensures digital timing integrity, enabling more natural, beautiful sound from MP3s to Hi-Res audio.

• Beetle's asynchronous Bluetooth input, featuring proprietary wireless communication technology, cannot turn Bluetooth audio into 24/96 Hi-Res audio, but it comes close enough to astonish a lot of people. Instead of buying headphones whose only real claim is that they include Bluetooth, consider using Beetle in combination with headphones chosen for their sound quality.
