Pressed in Germany on 180 Gram Virgin Vinyl!
Mastered from the Analogue Tapes in the Bavarian Radio Archives!

This production continues Audite’s publication of the Mahler Symphonies in 180g-vinyl format. Following Symphonies Nos. 1, 3, 5, 6 and 7, Symphony No. 2 is now immediately available.

In the Second Symphony different types of music characters are connected, ranging from folkloristic, religious-associative and serenade-like elements to Brucknerian intensifications and novel alienation. Mahler’s own programmatic references offer an important means of approaching the idea behind this Symphony.

The live recording of 8 December 1982 was made in the Herkulessaal of the Residenz in Munich; the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and Choir perform under the proven leadership of the Mahler specialist, Rafael Kubelik.
