A combination of direct and room mic placements contribute to the Extended Sound Environment (E.S.E.) recording technique enhancing the listening experience. You may experience sonic imperfections that are faced while recording in this style. Blue Coast believes the benefit of passionate performances outweigh the challenges of obtaining perfection.
The performers were chosen for their live performance abilities. The album features classic songs by Bob Marley, James Taylor, Warren Zevon and Kansas along with compositions by the performers.
All songs were originally recorded to 2" analog tape and mixed down to Direct Stream Digital (DSD) at 2.8MHz using the Sonoma System with Meitner Converters. Vintage microphones were used by DPA/B&K, Didrik DeGeer and Neumann; extraordinary preamps by Millennia Media, Manley and Neve; and cables made in house to Blue Coast's specifications.
The Hybrid Super Audio CD (SACD) format was chosen because of its optimum frequency response, which improves both the Stereo DSD and the Redbook CD layers of this disc. Both layers have the full dynamic range of the original mixes and were mastered in Blue Coast's own studios.
