Although Jimmy Forrest is well known for composing and playing the huge R&B hit "Night Train", his bebop tenor sax playing ranks among the best. This 1959 session features the very first recording of guitarist Grant Green who later went on to Blue Note records. These were also early recordings of drummer Elvin Jones who was yet to join the legendary John Coltrane Quartet. The less than gentle title of this album should give you a gleaming insight to the hearty type of offering enclosed; uninhibited mainstream bebop.

The original analog master tapes were played on a newly refurbished and optimized Otari MTR-10 and copied to a newly refurbished Ampex ATR 102 using NAB settings. The Production masters were then played on and copied to more refurbished and optimized Otari MTR-10s. This copy was made from Production Master SM-900 and is copied to SM-911 tape.

The illustrative cover was the original cover, the photograph cover a later version.

** It is standard practice in all recording studios to keep the tape "tail out". This reduces "pre-echo" and it means that the tape should be placed on the right hand side of the recorder, re-wound and then played.
