Limited Edition 180g Vinyl Picture Disc!

Christmas Spirituals was recorded by the American folk singer Odetta, and was first released in 1960. The album features Bill Lee, Spike Lee's father, on double bass.

Odetta Holmes, known as Odetta, was an American singer, actress, guitarist, songwriter, and a civil and human rights activist, often referred to as "The Voice of the Civil Rights Movement". Her musical repertoire consisted largely of American folk music, blues, jazz, and spirituals. An important figure in the American folk music revival of the 1950s and 1960s, she influenced many of the key figures of the folk-revival of that time, including Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Mavis Staples, and Janis Joplin.

This poignant holiday recording is now available on limited edition 180g picture disc!

"Odetta's husky voice is often stunning, both in her a cappella performances and her songs with accompaniment. She says these songs are traditional spirituals, neither purely African nor American, but songs that emerged from the sufferings of slavery. Powerful stuff." - Dennis MacDonald, allmusic.com
