The Grammy award-winning violinist and conductor Joshua Bell recorded his new album Bruch: Scottish Fantasy with the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields. He conducted the piece, which gave him the freedom to work on all the little details. The technical finesse and the gypsy soulfulness of the compositions gives this record a natural feeling. Bell has spent his time with the orchestra in finding the right character for this recording and it works out really great.

Joshua Bell made his Carnegie Hall debut in 1985, at age 17. It was the start of a career that's already spanning over 30 years. He is one of the most celebrated violinists of his era and has recorded more than 40 albums. Bell has reached new audiences from collaborations with artists outside the classical arena and performances on television shows.

The Bruch: Scottish Fantasy release includes a 4 page booklet with pictures and liner notes.

"Max Bruch's G minor concerto is a popular vehicle for freshly minted wunderkind violinists, and Joshua Bell was no exception, having first recorded the piece in the late 1980s with the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, the same ensemble for which, 30 years later, he serves as Music Director. It's a gift to have Bell revisit the work, along with Bruch's Scottish Fantasy, as a fully mature interpreter who is still at the top of his game as a player. Bell's phrasing and large-scale shaping of the music is so fluent that the considerable technical challenges of both works are almost forgotten. For once, these warhorses can be enjoyed not simply as tuneful excuses for virtuoso display but rather as prime instances of Romantic era expressiveness, executed to perfection. The dependable Adam Abeshouse recorded the program at Air Studios in London; the opening of the Scottish Fantasy offers a dark, rich orchestral sonority from which emerges the huge yet focused sound of the artist's "Gibson ex-Huberman" Stradivarius. I've heard Bell play this remarkable instrument in person, and believe me, the ability to hear it soar above an orchestral outpouring - as with Sony's recording - is not because of the engineer's intervention." - Andrew Quint, The Absolute Sound, December 2018
