Mastered from the Original Master Tapes! Their Second American LP! Boasting a Dozen Notable Tunes!

One of the Brit Quintet's Most Accomplished Efforts! Showcasing Frontman Paul Jones' Charismatic Vocals and the Band Members' Killer Musicianship! A Potent Quintuple Dose of This Five-of-a-Kind Combo!

Manfred Mann’s second American LP The Five Faces of Manfred Mann is a worthy follow-up, boasting a dozen notable tunes including the hits “Sha La La” and “Come Tomorrow,” plus some impressive originals and a distinctive version of the Herbie Hancock/ Mongo Santamaria standard “Watermelon Man” that give the musicians a chance to demonstrate their considerable jazz chops.

Although many of the British Invasion’s most prominent bands were comprised of inexperienced rockers learning their craft as they went along, Manfred Mann was something different. The versatile British quintet, which took its collective name from that of its South African-born keyboardist, was comprised of four seasoned musicians with a solid grounding in jazz and blues, plus a charismatic frontman who was also one of England’s finest blue-eyed soul singers. Together, the five members of Manfred Mann—or the Manfreds, as their fans called them—turned their diverse talents towards rock ’n’ roll, and came up with a series of albums and singles that are among the catchiest and most enduring of the period.

Now, Sundazed reaches back to present Manfred Mann’s first five U.S. albums, out of print for decades and reissued for the first time in their original vinyl format, mastered from the original tapes and featuring complete cover art.

"[A] respectable mix of R&B and pop. For pop, there were 'Sha La La' and 'Come Tomorrow,' two of their biggest mid-'60s hits, and 'She,' one of their best self-penned efforts in that vein. For R&B, there was the original 'Hubble Bubble (Toil and Trouble),' a British hit, and some good covers, notably 'I'm Your Kingpin,' 'Groovin',' and 'Dashing Away with the Smoothing Iron,' drawn from a then-recent British EP release. The group also flaunted its eclecticism with forays into jazz (a version of 'Watermelon Man') and folk (the traditional 'John Hardy')." - Bruce Eder, allmusic.com
