Two great original albums placed on a double vinyl. Ella Swings Brightly With Nelson is a 1962 studio album by the American jazz singer Ella Fitzgerald, accompanied by an orchestra arranged by Nelson Riddle. The other is Ella Swings Gently With Nelson that Fitzgerald and Riddle also recorded and released in 1962. Ella won a Grammy for Best Vocal Performance Female for the album Ella Swings Brightly With Nelson.

Although the accent is on ballads, several of the songs are taken at medium tempos and she swings throughout. Highlights include Georgia on My Mind, The Very Thought of You, Its a Pity to Say Goodnight , Darn That Dream and Body and Soul.

Ella Swings Brightly with Nelson finds the ultimate female jazz singer in her late 1950s/early 1960s Verve sweet spot, when she could do no wrong. Her tone honeyed, her phrasing knowing, witty, and fun, Ella swings through one effortless performance after another, including the playful 'I Won't Dance,' a bluesy 'When Your Lover Has Gone,' and the soaring 'I Only Have Eyes for You.' Sure, Riddle takes a bit much from the Frank SInatra charts he made famous, but no matter: Ella is the star from start to finish.
